small refinement

japanese architects have already largely proven that very small housing projects can be very creatively dealt with. this was also proven with 7 to 10 metre parcels in “wildervelt”, an allotment in sint-pietersleeuw. it is in itself not very extraordinary. special about this project is the fact that the buyers of these parcels were forced to choose an architect from a limited list. the aim was to attain a certain architectural quality in the entire street.

architect jo crepain was assigned to design a mini house for the feyen family, a family with two children. the low budget of € 87,500 requested a creative approach.

characteristic about the façade is that is made mostly out of glass. this way, light gets in during the day and out during the evening, which is a sign that people really live in the accommodation. there is a openness. the feeling of space and openness has been preserved by the uncomplicated interior. a cube-shaped volume with a kitchen and a hobby room. this volume was finished on all sides with poly carbonate boards, lighted by striplight.

the backside of the house is also entirely made out of glass. it is completed with a terrace. so the beautiful nature reserve, which the house overlooks, can be fully enjoyed.

jo crepain also realized another project in the same street. namely, an apartment building out of dark brick, which you can see on the photo of the street scene.
