the union of cars and architecture has existed among man's highest fascinations for quite sometime, as le corbusier illustrated in "vers une architecture". now, in 2004, leading car manufacturer bmw continues to explore the relationship between the shelter of man and his transportation. bmw's new luxurious calendar depicts their new models submersed in the architectural visions of a group of young and progressive architecture firms from across the globe.

the concept for the calender was developed by the german company munique creative studio and for the architecture by the office tools off.architecture, which already had a past experience in the car industry with for example audi at the frankfurt car fair. together with 11 other young and upcoming firms from around the world they envisioned the new bmw models amidst futuristic architectural landscapes. the designs exhibit a diversity of futuristic visions from the deep sea to outer space architecture. teema's kattendijktoren project featured in the calendar depicts thoughts of a hopeful and utopian architectural future, though actually structurally calculated by the london engineering office, arup.

architecture and cars are hard to be imagined separately, as they have collectively dominated the landscape for over a century. they are both a product of their time and have arisen from ingenious technological insight and a time of great spirit. bmw's visions of the future are hopeful and inspirational in a time of an architectural and transportation revolution.
