INFORMATION

Oskar Reinhart (1885-1965) was the son of a business family. In 1924 he devoted himself entirely to his collection. He located his activities as a collector at the villa "Am Römerholz", overviewing the city of Winterthur. A gallery was constructed next to the villa. After his death in 1965 the villa and his collection were given to the Suiss confederation. In 1995 Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer were invited by the Suiss Confederation to renovate and extend the museum. The original room layout was restored and an annex with 3 new gallery spaces was added. The new extension by Gigon & Guyer linked the villa with the original Paintings Gallery. The outer concrete walls where designed and threathed to get them a green patina.
